Natica bifasciata was named by Stoppani (1857) [m. kosnik taxon no: 10101].

It was recombined as Neritaria bifasciata by Kittl (1899); it was recombined as Polinices (Polinices) bifasciatus by Keen (1971) and Marincovich (1977).
