Aulastraeopora was named by Prever (1909) [Sepkoski's age data: K m]. It is the type genus of Aulastraeoporidae.

It was assigned to Amphiastreidae by Wells (1956); to Scleractinia by Sepkoski (2002); and to Aulastraeoporidae by Baron-Szabo (2002).
