Axotrochus was named by Beauvais (1986) [Sepkoski's age data: J Toar-l Sepkoski's reference number: 682]. It is not extant. Its type is Axotrochus outitensis.

It was assigned to Coryphylliidae by Beauvais (1986); and to Scleractinia by Sepkoski (2002).
