Taxonomy
Lutraria lapidosa was named by Conrad (1846). Its type specimen is ANSP 20218, a shell, and it is a 3D body fossil.

It was recombined as Pteropsis lapidosa by Conrad (1865) and Harris (1919); it was recombined as Kymatox lapidosa by Stenzel (1957); it was recombined as Pteropsella lapidosa by Palmer and Brann (1965) and Kosnik (2002).
