Sigaretus (Sigatica) was named by Meyer and Aldrich (1886) [m. kosnik taxon no: 9846 Sepkoski's age data: T Than R Sepkoski's reference number: 914]. It is extant.

It was corrected as Sigaretus (Sigaticus) by Aldrich (1911); it was Polinices (Sigaticus) by Olsson (1928); it was reranked as Sigaticus by Pacaud and Le Renard (1995); it was reranked as Sigatica by Woodring (1928), Gardner (1947), Majima (1989), Kabat (1991), Todd (2001) and Sepkoski (2002).

It was assigned to Sigaretus by Meyer and Aldrich (1886), Aldrich (1887) and Aldrich (1911); to Polinices by Olsson (1928); to Sininae by Woodring (1928), Gardner (1947) and Majima (1989); to Polinicinae by Pacaud and Le Renard (1995); to Naticidae by Kabat (1991) and Todd (2001); and to Neotaenioglossa by Sepkoski (2002).
