Stenothyridae was named by Tryon (1866) [m. kosnik taxon no: 5460]. It is extant.

It was assigned to Rissooidea by Beesley (1998), Harzhauser (2002) and Bouchet et al. (2005); and to Truncatelloidea by Ponder and Warén (1988) and Criscione and Ponder (2013).
