Coeloseris was named by Vaughan (1918) [Sepkoski's age data: T Mi R Sepkoski's reference number: 796]. It is extant. Its type is Coeloseris mayeri.

It was assigned to Agariciidae by Wells (1956); and to Scleractinia by Sepkoski (2002).
