Complexastraeopsis was named by Morycowa (1974) [Sepkoski's age data: J Oxfo-u J Tith-u Sepkoski's reference number: 868]. It is not extant.

It was synonymized subjectively with Complexastrea by Baron-Szabo (2002).

It was assigned to Scleractinia by Sepkoski (2002); and to Montlivaltiidae by Morycowa and Misik (2005).
