Taxonomy
Relanus was named by Pessagno and Whalen (1982) [Sepkoski's age data: J Hett Sepkoski's reference number: 756]. Its type is Relanus reefensis.

It was synonymized subjectively with Canoptum by O'Dogherty et al. (2009).

It was assigned to Canoptiinae by Yeh (1987); to Canoptidae by De Wever et al. (2001); and to Nassellaria by Sepkoski (2002).
