Conocyathus was named by d'Orbigny (1849) [Sepkoski's age data: K Maes R Sepkoski's reference number: 1125]. It is extant.

It was assigned to Turbinoliinae by Wells (1956); to Turbinoliidae by Cairns (1997); and to Scleractinia by Sepkoski (2002).
