Conotrochus was named by Seguenza (1864) [Sepkoski's age data: T Eo R Sepkoski's reference number: 796]. It is extant.

It was reranked as Ceratotrochus (Conotrochus) by Yabe and Eguchi (1942).

It was assigned to Ceratotrochus by Yabe and Eguchi (1942); to Caryophylliidae by Wells (1956) and Cairns (1994); and to Scleractinia by Sepkoski (2002).
