Xancidae was named by Pilsbry (1922) [m. kosnik taxon no: 5363]. It is extant.

It was assigned to Prosobranchiata by Harris and Palmer (1947); to Buccinacea by Rivera (1957) and Sohl (1964); and to Turbinellidae by Ponder and Warén (1988).
