Craterastraea was named by Beauvais (1978) [Sepkoski's age data: J Bath Sepkoski's reference number: 658]. It is not extant. Its type is Thamnasteria crateriformis.
It was assigned to Scleractinia by Sepkoski (2002); to Agariciidae by Pandey and Fürsich (2005); and to Coscinaraeidae by Benzoni et al. (2012).
