Lonchodelphis occiduus

Taxonomy
Delphinus occiduus was named by Leidy (1868). Its type specimen is MCZ 8765 and is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Half Moon Bay, which is in a Miocene marine horizon in California.

It was considered an invalid subgroup of Delphinidae by Eastman (1907); it was recombined as Phocaena occidua by Jordan and Gilbert (1919); it was considered a nomen dubium by de Muizon (1988) and Uhen et al. (2008); it was recombined as Lonchodelphis occiduus by Allen (1924), Hay (1930), Barnes (1977) and Boessenecker (2013).
