Phocageneus venustus
Taxonomy
Phocageneus venustus was named by Leidy (1869). Its type specimen is ANSP 11227, a tooth, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Third and Fourth Streets, which is in a Serravallian coastal sandstone in the Calvert Formation of Virginia.
It was recombined as Delphinodon venustus by Trouessart (1898), Hay (1902), Trouessart (1904) and Hay (1930).
