Rhopalosyringium was named by Campbell and Clark (1944) [Sepkoski's age data: K u K Maes-u]. It is extant. Its type is Rhopalosyringium magnificum.
It was assigned to Cannobotryidae by De Wever et al. (2001); and to Nassellaria by Sepkoski (2002).
