Anomura was named by Milne-Edwards (1832) [It was originally a tribe; also attributed to MacLeay 1838]. It is extant.

It was assigned to Pleocyemata by Martin and Davis (2001); and to Decapoda by MacLeay (1838), Bishop (1985), Feldmann et al. (2003) and Vega et al. (2006).
