Perneratia aristerospira was named by Mawson et al. (2002). Its type specimen is AMF 118298. Its type locality is Bed 10 Section Q Right flank of Limestone Creek, Windellama, which is in a Lochkovian carbonate limestone in the Windellama Formation of Australia.
