Paninia was named by Pyenson et al. (2015) [Pan-Inia ]. It is extant.

It was assigned to Inioidea by Pyenson et al. (2015).

Synonyms

Ischyrorhynchinae was named by Cozzuol (1996). It is not extant.

It was synonymized subjectively with Paninia by Pyenson et al. (2015).

It was assigned to Iniidae by Cozzuol (1996) and Cozzuol (2010).
Saurocetidae was named by Ameghino (1891). It is not extant. Its type is Saurocetes.

It was considered an invalid subgroup of Iniidae by Barnes et al. (1985); it was synonymized subjectively with Paninia by Pyenson et al. (2015).

It was assigned to Odontoceti by Ameghino (1891).
