Taxonomy
Hyperoodon planifrons was named by Flower (1882). It is extant. Its type specimen is BMNH 1814a-82.3.21.1, a skull. Its type locality is Lewis Island, which is in a Holocene coastal horizon in Australia.

It was recombined as Hyperoodon (Frasercetus) planifrons by Moore (1968).
