Edwardsastraea was named by Roniewicz (1970) [Sepkoski's age data: J Tith-u Sepkoski's reference number: 832]. It is not extant. Its type is Edwardsastraea tisburiensis.

It was assigned to Faviidae by Roniewicz (1970); to Scleractinia by Sepkoski (2002); and to Merulinidae by Kiessling (2021).
