Taxonomy
Bothrophyllum was named by Trautschold (1879) [Sepkoski's age data: D Fame-u C Mosc Sepkoski's reference number: 680,1240].

It was assigned to Cyathopsidae by Hill (1956); to Rugosa by Sepkoski (2002) and García-Bellido et al. (2004); and to Bothrophyllidae by Hill (1981), Flügel (1993) and Wang et al. (2006).
