Elasmophora was named by Alloiteau (1958) [Sepkoski's age data: J Sepkoski's reference number: 658]. It is not extant. Its type is Elasmophora collignoni.

It was assigned to Cyathophoridae by Alloiteau (1958); and to Scleractinia by Sepkoski (2002).
