Taxonomy
Otozoum parvum was named by Hitchcock (1889). It is considered to be a form taxon. Its type specimen is LC S490, a footprint, and it is a trace fossil. Its type locality is Smith Clark's quarry, Milford (level B), which is in a Norian terrestrial shale/sandstone in the Passaic Formation of New Jersey.

It was recombined as Chirotherium parvum by Lull (1915), Lull (1917), Hay (1930), Bock (1952), Baird (1954), Baird (1957), Kuhn (1958), Courel et al. (1968), Haubold (1969), Demathieu (1970) and Ellenberger et al. (1970); it was considered a nomen dubium by Peabody (1948); it was misspelled as Chirotherium parvus by Bock (1959); it was recombined as Brachychirotherium parvum by Kuhn (1963), Haubold (1971), Demathieu and Haubold (1972), Lockley (1986), Olsen and Baird (1986), Rainforth (2003), Weems (2006), Weems (2006), Hunt and Lucas (2007) and Klein and Lucas (2021).
