It was assigned to Aglaocetidae by Steeman (2007); to Thalassotherii by Bisconti et al. (2013); to Chaeomysticeti by Boessenecker and Fordyce (2015); to Balaenopteroidea by Marx and Fordyce (2015); to Cetotheriidae by Kimura and Ozawa (2002) and Berta (2017); and to Plicogulae by Tanaka et al. (2024).
