Taxonomy
Thescelosauridae was named by Sternberg (1937). Its type is Thescelosaurus. It was considered monophyletic by Brown et al. (2013).
It was synonymized subjectively with Hypsilophodontidae by Kuhn (1964) and Kuhn (1966).
It was assigned to Ornithopoda by Tatarinov (1964); to Brachypoda by Thulborn (1974) and Thulborn (1977); to Iguanodontia by Russell (1984); to Ornithopoda by Brown et al. (2013); and to Neornithischia by Madzia et al. (2018), Herne et al. (2019), Barta and Norell (2021) and Bonde et al. (2022).
