Gardineroseris was named by Scheer and Pillai (1974) [Sepkoski's age data: T Mi-m R Sepkoski's reference number: 1110]. It is extant.

It was assigned to Agariciidae by Veron (2000) and López-Pérez (2005); and to Scleractinia by Sepkoski (2002) and Humblet et al. (2009).
