Taxonomy
Mesoplodon tumidirostris was named by Miyazaki and Hasegawa (1992). Its type specimen is NSM-PV 19732, a partial skull (rostral fragment), and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Emperor Seamounts/Midway Island trawl 1, which is in a Neogene marine horizon in Japan.
