Sinovenator changii

Taxonomy
Sinovenator changii was named by Xu et al. (2002). Its type specimen is IVPP V12615, a partial skeleton (disarticulated partial skull and skeleton), and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Lujiatun village, Shangyuan [general] (IVPP), which is in a Barremian/Aptian fluvial tuff in the Yixian Formation of China.

Yin et al. 2018Sinovenator is distinguished from other troodontids in having the following autapomorphies (newly added diagnostic features marked by*): well-developed medial shelf on the jugal*; slender bar in the parasphenoid recess*; lateral groove on the pterygoid flange of the ectopterygoid*; surangular “T”-shaped in cross-section; lateral surface of the anterior cervical vertebrae bearing two pneumatic foramina*; and prominent lateral cnemial crest continuous with the fibular crest.
