Taxonomy

Anaschisma was named by Branson (1905).

It was synonymized subjectively with Metoposaurus by Chowdhury (1965); it was synonymized subjectively with Dictyocephalus by Davidow-Henry (1987); it was misspelled as Anaschima by Carroll (1988) and Hunt (1989); it was considered a nomen dubium by Hunt (1993) and Schoch and Milner (2000).

It was assigned to Metoposauridae by Watson (1919), Carroll (1988) and Hunt (1989).

A. browni (syn. A. brachygnatha, Borborophagus wyomingensis, Koskinonodon perfectus, Buettneria howardensis, Kalamoiketer pinkleyi, Buettneria calgariensis, Koskinonodon princeps)

Koskinonodon was named by Branson and Mehl (1929).

It was synonymized subjectively with Metoposaurus by Chowdhury (1965); it was synonymized subjectively with Buettneria by Hunt (1993), Long and Murry (1995) and Schoch and Milner (2000); it was synonymized subjectively with Anaschisma by Gee et al. (2020).

It was assigned to Metoposauridae by Branson and Mehl (1929) and Mueller (2007).
Borborophagus was named by Branson and Mehl (1929).

It was synonymized subjectively with Metoposaurus by Chowdhury (1965); it was synonymized subjectively with Buettneria by Hunt (1993), Long and Murry (1995) and Schoch and Milner (2000); it was synonymized subjectively with Anaschisma by Gee et al. (2020).

It was assigned to Metoposauridae by Branson and Mehl (1929).
Kalamoiketer was named by Branson and Mehl (1929).

It was synonymized subjectively with Metoposaurus by Chowdhury (1965); it was synonymized subjectively with Buettneria by Long and Murry (1995).
Buettneria was named by Case (1922). Its type is Buettneria perfecta.

It was synonymized subjectively with Metoposaurus by Chowdhury (1965); it was replaced with Koskinonodon by Mueller (2007); it was synonymized subjectively with Anaschisma by Gee et al. (2020).

It was assigned to Stegosauria by Marsh (1882); and to Metoposauridae by Hunt (1989), Hunt (1993), Long and Murry (1995), Schoch and Milner (2000) and Irmis (2005).
