Cerarchocyrtium was named by Deflandre (1973) [Sepkoski's age data: D Fame-u C l Sepkoski's reference number: 701]. Its type is Cerarchocyrtium ambiguum.

It was assigned to Archocyrtiidae by De Wever et al. (2001); and to Spumellaria by Sepkoski (2002).
