Taxonomy
Bathygnathus borealis was named by Leidy (1853). It is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is McLeod farm well, which is in an Artinskian terrestrial shale/sandstone in the Orby Head Formation of Canada.

It was recombined as Dimetrodon borealis by Brink et al. (2015).
