Kionotrochus was named by Dennant (1906) [Sepkoski's age data: T Than-l R Sepkoski's reference number: 86]. It is extant.

It was assigned to Turbinoliinae by Wells (1956); to Turbinoliidae by Alloiteau and Tissier (1958); and to Scleractinia by Sepkoski (2002).
