Latusastrea was named by d'Orbigny (1850) [Sepkoski's age data: J Kimm K Ceno-u Sepkoski's reference number: 821]. It is not extant.

It was assigned to Scleractinia by Sepkoski (2002); and to Heterocoeniidae by Turnsek (1997), Götz et al. (2005) and Kiessling (2008).
