Fordilla germanica was named by Elicki (1994). Its type locality is Gorlitz Synclinorium carbonates, Zweta Formation, Germany - Elicki et al. 1992, which is in an Atdabanian/Lenian peritidal limestone in the Zwetau Formation of Germany.
