Manicina was named by Ehrenberg (1834) [Sepkoski's age data: T Mi-u-l R Sepkoski's reference number: 1102]. It is extant.

It was assigned to Faviidae by Johnson (1998) and Veron (2000); to Scleractinia by Sepkoski (2002); and to Faviinae by Budd et al. (2012).
