Melikerona was named by Alloiteau (1958) [Sepkoski's age data: J Bath J Call Sepkoski's reference number: 847]. It is not extant.

It was assigned to Dendrogyriidae by Beauvais (1966); and to Scleractinia by Sepkoski (2002).
