Sephardiella was named by March et al. (1988). It is the type genus of Sephardiellinae.

It was assigned to Sephardiellinae by Plasencia et al. (2007).

Orchard 2005 (Budurovignathus)Apparatus as for subfamily, with carminiplanate, smooth to ornamented P1 elements, and characteristic P2 elements that have a remarkably straight, unarched profile. S2 element has one long denticulated process and a second one bearing two denticles. The larger process of the S1 element is distinctively high in its proximal part.
