Scaldicetus macgeei was named by Chapman (1912) [No type specimen number is listed by Chapman (1912).]. It is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Beaumaris, which is in a Messinian shoreface sandstone in the Black Rock Sandstone Formation of Australia.
