Taxonomy
Stearoceras involutum was named by Tucker (1976). Its type specimen is PE 27956. Its type locality is Type localitity of Shumway Limestone Member, Matttoon Fm., Shumway Cyclothem, which is in a Virgilian carbonate lime mudstone/limestone in the Mattoon Formation of Illinois.
