Mitrodendron was named by Quenstedt (1880) [Sepkoski's age data: J Oxfo-u J Tith-u]. It is not extant.

It was assigned to Amphiastraeidae by Eliasova (1975); to Mitrodendronidae by Turnsek (1997); and to Scleractinia by Sepkoski (2002).
