Mixastraea was named by Roniewicz (1976) [Sepkoski's age data: J Oxfo-u J Kimm-l Sepkoski's reference number: 658]. It is not extant. Its type is Mixastraea danubica.

It was assigned to Latomeandridae by Roniewicz (1976); and to Scleractinia by Sepkoski (2002).
