Taxonomy
Montlivaltia was named by Lamouroux (1821) [Sepkoski's age data: Tr Anis-l K l Sepkoski's reference number: 796,934]. It is not extant.

It was assigned to Astraeidae by Smith (1927); to Scleractinia by Sepkoski (2002); to Montlivaltiidae by Fischer (1969), Roniewicz (1976) and Baron-Szabo (2006); and to Montlivaltiinae by Kiessling (2008).
