Taxonomy
Platyoptera pacifica was named by Squires and Demetrion (1990) [Early-Middle Eocene; California]. Its type specimen is IGM 5055, a shell, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is CSUN Loc. 1220 [Bateque Fm], which is in a Ypresian offshore sandstone/limestone in the Bateque Formation of Mexico.
