Pachyphyllia was named by Alloiteau (1957) [Sepkoski's age data: K Sant K Maes Sepkoski's reference number: 691]. It is not extant. It is the type genus of Pachyphyllidae, Pachyphylliidae.

It was assigned to Pachyphyllidae by Baron-Szabo (2002).
