Taxonomy
Genota was named by Adams and Adams (1858) [Sepkoski's age data: T Than R Sepkoski's reference number: 614]. It is extant.

It was reranked as Pleurotoma (Genota) by Toula (1909); it was misspelled as Genotia by Vredenburg (1921), Olsson (1930), Sepkoski (2002), Baluk (2003), Wienrich and Janssen (2007) and Bouchet et al. (2011).

It was assigned to Pleurotoma by Toula (1909); to Conidae by Vredenburg (1921); to Neogastropoda by Sepkoski (2002); to Turridae by Olsson (1930) and Baluk (2003); to Conorbiinae by Wienrich and Janssen (2007); and to Borsoniidae by Bouchet et al. (2011).
