Eubrontes platypus
Taxonomy
Amblonyx giganteus was named by Hitchcock (1858). It is considered to be a form taxon. Its type specimen is AC 13/4, a footprint, and it is a trace fossil. Its type locality is below Turners Falls, tracksite, which is in a Hettangian/Sinemurian fluvial-lacustrine sandstone/shale in the Portland Formation of Massachusetts.
It was recombined as Fulicopus giganteus by Hay (1902) and Hay (1930); it was recombined as Grallator (Eubrontes) platypus by Olsen and Galton (1984); it was synonymized subjectively with Eubrontes giganteus by Weems (1992); it was recombined as Eubrontes platypus by Lull (1904), Lull (1904), Lull (1915), Lull (1917), Lull (1953), Kuhn (1963), Haubold (1971), Sarjeant (1975), Leonardi (1979), Leonardi (1980), Zhen et al. (1986), Leonardi (1989), Zhen et al. (1989), Thulborn (1990), Gao (2007), Fujita et al. (2008), Xing et al. (2009), Lockley et al. (2013), Li and Zhang (2017), Xing et al. (2017), Gand et al.
