Taxonomy
Champsosaurus laramiensis was named by Brown (1905). Its type specimen is AMNH 982, a skeleton, and it is not a trace fossil. Its type locality is Hell Creek (AMNH general), which is in a Maastrichtian terrestrial horizon in the Hell Creek Formation of Montana.
