Plesiophyllum was named by Alloiteau (1952) [Sepkoski's age data: J l K l Sepkoski's reference number: 828]. It is not extant.

It was synonymized subjectively with Oppelismilia by Wells (1956).

It was assigned to Zardinophyllidae by Beauvais (1986); and to Scleractinia by Sepkoski (2002).
