Taxonomy
Shartegosuchidae was named by Efimov (1988). It is not extant. Its type is Shartegosuchus. It was considered monophyletic by Wings et al. (2010) and Clark (2011).
It was assigned to Notosuchia by Efimov and Leschinskii (1998); to Protosuchia by Storrs and Efimov (2000); to Crocodyliformes by Wings et al. (2010); to Crocodyliformes by Pol and Norell (2004), Clark (2011) and Buscalioni (2017); and to Shartegosuchoidea by Dollman et al. (2018).
